Several years ago I never would have imagined myself where I’m at now physically. I wasn’t totally out of shape, but I was a long ways from being fit! I had a bike, but I went 3 years before I even had 50 miles on it. I always meant to get around to riding, but kept putting it off.

Then one night after a sand volleyball game, Adam and I were sitting around having a few adult beverages and discussing the ways of the world. Somehow the subject turned to the Cornhusker State Games and Adam asked if I had heard about the Adventure Race they have. I was only vaguely familiar with it, so Adam explained to me what he knew about it. Then he jokingly suggested that we should do it. Still not totally sure what it was, I said ‘sure’.

The next morning, I researched it some more and realized what I had agreed to! Adam called me that day and asked if I was still up for doing it. I said ‘of course’ even though I knew it would require some serious training.

For the next several months we hit the gym regularly, lifting, biking, running, and conditioning ourselves for the task at hand. Once the weather cooperated, we were able to train outdoors as well. Finally race day came. The Adventure Race was everything we expected and then some. It was tough and physically demanding, but we persevered and finished. For me, that first race wasn’t about competing against all the other athletes, it was about competing against myself and pushing myself to do something I never thought I would be able to do. Crossing that finish line was the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve experienced in a very long time!

Set a goal, no matter how big it might seem now, and work towards achieving it. Focus on competing only against yourself and you too can and will achieve what you never thought possible.

From beginner to conditioned athlete, we want everyone to enjoy the excitement of hitting the trail and getting in shape. This site is dedicated to helping you achieve your personal fitness goals.
