Living History Hoopla

As you look in front of you, there are people as far as you can see… running! When you look behind you, there are people as far as you can see… running! You see cowboys, and Indians, and bees, and superman, and snow white, and running crayons… is this another one of your crazy dreams? No, it’s the Living History Farms race… North America’s largest cross country race!

BentVenture.com went to Urbandale Iowa to run in this race back on November 17. It was perhaps one of the most fun events we have done yet. It’s a seven mile run that is somewhat of a mix between a cross-country race and an adventure race. While the event was all running, it required you to cross several creeks, and crawl up very steep hills.

With nearly 7000 competitors, just the number of people provided a challenge in itself. From the minutes it took just to cross the start line after the gun went off… to congestion at all of the narrow passages… all the way to the finish line.

Like most of the events we go to… the people are always very nice, and fun to be around. The competition takes a back seat to having fun. Between people howling in the tunnel, and people flopping around in the creeks like fish… it was just plain fun!

We only heard about this race about a month before it happened. So, we trained for it… and made the trip to Urbandale. And, we are sure glad we did! This race will definitely go on the calendar for years to come. What a way to end a racing season!!

We want to thank the folks at Living History Farms and all of the sponsors that made this event possible. We look forward to coming back next year!
